Unix Systems Administrator | Project Consultant | UK Wide | £50,000

THE BASICS:

The role of Systems Administrator | Project Consultant is to transition solutions into 3rd party Data Centres, to meet planned budgets and timescales.
To ensure that all necessary support documentation is amended to reflect any implementation made and ensure handover and knowledge transfer to onshore and offshore support teams.

Provision/decommission of hardware into the Datacentre complying to DCM processes
Cabling of servers following documented Low-Level Designs and best practices
Install / Patching / Firmware upgrades following documented Low-Level Designs and best practices
Provide Project on Call and perform Out of hours change work
Provide documentation and information for Acceptance into Service to the BAU teams
Liaise with 3rd parties to develop minor Low-Level Designs in line with High-Level Designs
Identify Performance Issues, design & test disaster recovery plans

KEY SKILLS:

You will have strong understanding of ITIL and Change Management Methodology
Advanced Cisco IOS skills & experience
Strong familiarity with a wide range of Firewall vendors (Cisco ASA, Checkpoint, Fortinet, Palo Alto, McAfee)
Strong understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, IP address allocation & management
WAN installation/migration experience

You will need to have demonstrable experience working as a UNIX systems administrator (Red Hat, AIX and Solaris). You will also have strong familiarity with virtualization concepts (Oracle VM, VMWARE, AIX LPARS) coupled with good communication skills, both verbal and written. You’ll need to be a subject matter expert in your area of expertise to provide the technical skills required.
